All parents hope to look cool in the eyes of their kids, right? I know I do — and Adam Sandler definitely gets it.
The comedian recently opened up about trying to impress his teenage daughters, Sadie (17) and Sunny (15), by engaging with one of their favorite superstars: Taylor Swift.
Striving for Cool Dad Status
In a recent episode of Sirius XM’s Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, Conan O’Brien asked Sandler if any celebrities ever made him nervous.
Sandler’s answer? Taylor Swift.
“You know what, Taylor Swift — because of what she means to my kids, I get a little jittery. I just don’t want to disappoint my kids,” Sandler shared.
He added that sometimes he might be a little overenthusiastic when meeting her. “I’m like, ‘Taylor, Taylor!’ I might speak too loudly or something. I don’t keep my composure like I should.”
“You shout her name outside her house. ‘Taylor!’” O’Brien joked.
“Engage with me,” Sandler replied, laughing.
Sandler also noted just how much his daughters adore Swift’s music.
“People talk about The Beatles and her. My kids know every single song — they don’t skip one. I know them too, but they know them inside out. It’s like with The Beatles — you knew every track on the album. That’s Taylor Swift for them.”
Meeting Their Idol
Sandler’s daughters had the chance to meet Swift in person at the Eras Tour Film premiere in Los Angeles last October.
In a viral video from the event, shared by Deadline Hollywood, Swift warmly greeted Sunny and Sadie with hugs and posed for a photo with them — taken by none other than their proud dad.
Family On and Off Screen
While Sandler often casts his daughters in his films, he admits that it doesn’t always boost his “cool dad” status at home.
At the Spaceman premiere earlier this year, he joked to reporters:
“They still don’t engage with you. They do their own thing,” he said, according to PEOPLE. “They make an effort, and then they go off and do what they’re interested in. I stand by the side saying, ‘Love you.’ I tell them that a lot.”
Sunny and Sadie have appeared in several of their father’s films, including the Netflix animated movie Leo.
In a November 2023 interview on Extra: The Podcast, Sandler reflected on what it’s like working with his family:
“My kids have grown up on sets — talking about movies, being in movies — since they were little,” he shared.
“This is what they love to do. We’ll see if that sticks, but right now, they’re into it. And we have a great time, the four of us, talking about our craft.”
Final Thoughts
Like many parents of teens, Adam Sandler is simply trying to stay connected with his kids — and sometimes that means embracing their pop culture heroes.
And hey, if it involves singing along to Taylor Swift, he’s all in.
